EU Canvas Project!

Dear EU citizens and friends,

"Each child is important and valuable and has the right to a happy and carefree and secure youth." This is the motivation of the voluntary association "KRASS" which consists of 45 volunteers with various professional backgrounds. The little citizens of our EU, the children and young people are our future. They should have adequate and appropriate development and training opportunities for growing up in a society that enables them to participate freely in cultural and artistic life. Therefore, we want and should do something about it!

The Idea: In 2010, the EU Commission has launched the following initiative: "Child Poverty and Social Exclusion’. Which was a unique opportunity for KRASS to actively support their initiative with an appropriate project. In May KRASS started the "Europe Canvas" project in Düsseldorf, Germany. The aim of the project was for as many children as possible from all the EU countries to paint an approximately 30 square meters large canvas, which will become a politically and socially unifying work of art. The "Europe Canvas" is currently on a European Tour and is constantly enlarged. Germany, Belgium, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Finland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Finland, Hungary, Malta, Czech Republic and the United Kingdom have already contributed their own ‘square meter’.

After its completion, the project will be available for a presentation at a special event on the 29th of May 2012 in Brussels at the Europe Parliament!

Actions:

Every country should be represented by a square meter canvas, which should be created by several children of the same or different schools. The painting process could take place in class or during a planned event or festival, where the children along with their teachers and parents participate together. The motto under which the children will paint the canvas, is: "Children paint Their Europe!" Questions like "What does Europe mean to you?" or "How do you imagine your future in Europe?" could serve as sources of ideas/inspiration.

All you need is simply:

• one square white canvas or jute

• painting materials (acrylic paints, brushes, etc.) and

• a few creative kids!

If you think you could help us with the project or come up with some ideas in order to get your country represented in the "Europe Canvas” scheme, then please feel free to get in touch with us at: info@stiftungkulturfuerkinder.de We will be happy to assist you!
